Hand embroidery kit to make a goldwork and beaded mittens Christmas decoration. This kit is an original design by embroidery artist Hannah Mansfield /The Perpetual Maker. This kit includes full instructions and all the materials needed to create the decoration. The instructions cover two options for transferring the design to the fabric, the prick and pounce and the tacking transfer method as well as goldwork and beading techniques.The goldwork techniques covered in this kit include, applying padding, using pearl purl wire to create outlines and cutwork with purl wires. You will also learn how to make the embroidery into a neatly finished decoration. The instructions are presented in a spiral bound booklet which allows the open booklet to lie flat whilst you are embroidering.


You can choose from two colour ways for this kit, the gold colour way or the silver colour way. Please select the colour way you would like to order from the drop down menu. 

This kit is suitable for intermediate level embroiderers/sewers. It is useful if you have some knowledge of hand sewing because goldwork is a slightly more advanced embroidery technique. However, you do not need any experience with goldwork embroidery, the instructions are comprehensive and are designed to explain goldwork to those new to the technique.

Included in the kit: (all items are presented in a box)
  • A spiral bound A5 instruction booklet.
  • The mittens design printed on paper.
  • Two pieces of dark blue 100% wool felt fabric, one for the embroidery and a smaller piece for backing the decoration.
  • Tissue paper for the tacking transfer method.
  • The mittens design on paper pre-pricked with holes for the prick and pounce transfer method.
  • Two needles, a beading/goldwork wire needle and a sharps needle.
  • Beeswax.
  • Felt for padding.
  • Paper templates for the felt padding.
  • Two full size reels of cotton sewing thread and one card of a smaller quantity of thread.
  • A variety of imitation goldwork wires:
          The gold colour way includes, gold and silver pearl purl, gold smooth and rough purl, silver rough purl and gold bright check purl.
          The silver colour way includes, silver and gold pearl purl, silver smooth and rough purl, gold rough purl and silver bright check purl.
  • Beads in three colours:
          The gold colour way includes, silver lined green beads, silver lined light blue beads and pink lined beads.
           The silver colour way includes, opaque navy blue beads, light pink beads, opaque white beads.
  • Acid free card cut into the mittens shape for strengthening the decoration.
  • Metallic bakers twine.

The only additional items which you will need to make this kit, which are not included in the kit, are a six inch embroidery hoop and embroidery scissors. Plus a prick and pounce pad and powder if you choose to use that transfer method.
