Over the past weeks I have been embroidering a collection of samples which will contribute towards ideas for techniques to use on the final scarf. This sample features couching with textured threads, beading and chain stitch. The centres of the flowers are French knots. I started embroidering my scarf yesterday, it will be embroidered in a style similar to this sample onto crepe back satin silk. The finished scarf will be 1m square, probably the biggest thing I have ever embroidered!
In between visiting Dutch design week in Eindhoven a couple of weeks ago, going to London to see Mademoiselle Prive and Liberty in Fashion and writing my dissertation, I have managed to squeeze in some time for embroidery. I am still working on my scarf project, so I am making samples for possible techniques to use for my final scarf. This sample uses stumpwork one of my favourite embroidery techniques. All of the petals and leaves are made indvidually and then stitched onto the base fabric into which the stems and some of the other flowers have been embroidered.
